Welcome all “lactivists”!

For those of you who haven’t heard the term before a “lactivist” is a breastfeeding advocate. It is a combination of the words lactation and activist.  Like wise this blog will be a combination of science, philosophy, and activism.  Join me as I explore the way the many ways of looking at lactation.  The more we learn, the more we can educate.  The more we educate, the more changes we can make.  Until someday “lactivists” will become as outdated as as the suffragists of yore, and all baby will have won the right to breastfeed.

    Hi Kathy,

Just a quick note on your tongue tie comment…….Carolyn Westcott and her collegue here in the UK did research a couple of years ago that indicates (very approximately) that about 11% of babies have a tongue tie of any kind and that of those a lttle under half need something doing about it in order to breastfeed or bottlefeed well. So it is actually a bigger issue than we think it is. If you want references mail me and I will send them!
